About Lilit Hakobyan

Lilit Hakobyan  is an Armenian choreographer and photographer based in Berlin.

A graduate of the Yerevan State Ballet College, she continued her studies in the university for Theatre and Cinema and worked with the National Ballet of Armenia before joining Staatsoper Hannover in 2011.

She began her choreographic practice in 2018

She draws inspiration from cinematic imagery to shape her choreographic works, while her photography seeks to capture the dynamic atmosphere and visual language of the stage.

Her first creation "Einfach Hölle", inspired by J.P. Sartre's "NO EXIT", was selected to perform at the Emma Theater Osnabrück and LOT theater Braunschweig and Ballhof Hannover.

Her first full-length commissioned work "The Terranauts" premiered at Theater Hof in 2023, followed by "Heartless" for Summeet festival with Kannon Dance Company. In 2024, she created "Luck" for the Young Choreographers of Staatsballett Hannover. The work received multiple awards at the Hannover (2025) and Biarritz (2026) Choreographic Competitions, including the Audience Award and the Thierry Malandain Foundation Honorary Award. Luck was also presented at TanzOffensive Festival Hannover and will premiere with the Dance Company of Nationaltheater Mannheim in October 2026

Her recent works include ''Out of LOVE " for Staatsballett Oldenburg. '' Maria de Buenos Aires ' for Staatsoper Hannover. ''THE URGE'' for Ballett Basel and '' Das spiel ist Aus '' for Tanz Linz at Landestheater Linz

Alongside her choreographic practice, Hakobyan works as a movement director for opera, theatre, and film. Her dance film Sleep Easy was presented in New York and Yerevan and received the Best Choreography Award at ODDFEST in 2024.

In 2019 she created "Metamorfosis" by F.Kafka for a Film production by Armenian film director H.Galstyan.
